Augustine of Hippo

Augustine of Hippo lived from 354 AD to 430 AD. He was a philosopher whose philosophy infused Christian doctrine with Neoplatonism. He was a Catholic theologian and contributed to Western philosophy. He was the first Western philosopher to promote the argument by analogy: "here are bodies external to mine that behave as I behave and that appear to be nourished as mine is nourished; so, by analogy, I am justified in believing that these bodies have a similar mental life to mine." He believed that one's life is predestined. He was a well-known philosopher of his time.
