Emperor Titus

Emperor Titus lived from 40 AD - 81 AD. He became emperor June 24th in 79 AD. He was not very popular at first, both the senate and the people disliked him. Many people feared him to be a new Nero. He then tried to create a better image of himself. The network of informers was reduced in size and the charge of high treason was abolished. Titus set up a relief fund and announced a state of emergency when Mount Vesuvius erupted. Not long after that, a fire ravaged Rome for three days and nights, and Titus provided generous relief for the victims. Another catastrophe hit Rome, one of the worst epidemics of plague on record. He tried to combat the disease with medical support and extensive sacrifices to the gods. With all of Titus's help, he was a good emperor. He did not have to support Rome in the way that he did during its time of need, although I would find it to be horrible if he hadn't. He tried to do whatever he could to bring Rome back to normal again and make everything okay. I think that he cared for the people of Rome and truly wanted to help them which made him a very good emperor.
