The Olympic Games that take place today are based on what took place in Greece nearly three millennia ago. Traditionally, the games were an attractive means of getting men fit. The traditional Greek view was that the gods championed a winner. The power was asserted on humans by Zeus. Today, we know that winners are based on the skill and talent that they portray in the events that they are in. There was only one event for the first 13 Olympics, but there are now 15 events that occur. "Religion pervaded the ancient Olympics. Zeus was thought to look down on the competitors, favoring some and denying victory to others." Women did not use to participate at the main Olympic festival. Today, we know that women are very much a part of the Olympics. Not all Greeks admired athletes. "It isn't right to judge strength as better than good wisdom." Today, the Olympics are watched all around the world and are very popular.
